From Dialogue to Delivery: Industrial Hemp as a Catalyst for Sri Lanka’s Recovery

A high-level roundtable in Colombo connects policy, skills, and investment to unlock practical pathways for inclusive and sustainable growth.

On 21 April 2026, Incitāre Sri Lanka, in partnership with the Global Rethinking Finance Collaborative (GRFC), will convene a high-level, invitation-only roundtable in Colombo on “Industrial Hemp: An Old Crop in a Modern Era.”

This focused session brings together a small group of senior decision-makers from government, international organisations, finance, academia, and the private sector to address a practical question: how can industrial hemp be positioned as a viable, scalable contributor to Sri Lanka’s economic recovery and ecological transition?

At a time when the country is navigating overlapping economic, social, and environmental challenges, the roundtable is designed to move beyond theory. It will connect global evidence with local realities, with particular attention to:

  • Skills development and employment pathways;
  • Regenerative agriculture and land restoration;
  • Sustainable materials and construction;
  • Small and medium enterprise development; and
  • Investment-ready value chains.

The programme combines global insight with grounded experience. Contributions from international experts will be complemented by practical lessons from entrepreneurs, scientists, and investors working across the hemp value chain.

A facilitated discussion will identify priority actions and partnerships, with a clear focus on implementation. Outcomes from the roundtable will feed directly into a public-facing forum on 23 April, where emerging opportunities will be presented to a wider audience of investors and stakeholders.

For Incitāre, this convening reflects a long-standing commitment to working at the intersection of systems thinking and real-world delivery. By aligning policy dialogue, technical expertise, and investment pathways, the initiative aims to help translate opportunity into action, and action into measurable impact.
