Strategic Thinking

Rethinking the Future, Together

For decades, Geneva has served as a global crucible for bold, boundary-pushing ideas. It is a city where political democracy, humanitarianism, disarmament, human rights, international trade, environmental sustainability, and global development have all been actively debated, tested, and shaped. Here, government officials, private sector leaders, and civil society actors have come together to learn from failure, build on lessons learned, and challenge conventional thinking.

The Global Futures – Geneva Perspectives initiative builds on this tradition, responding to a growing consensus: the governance and financing models developed in the 20th century are no longer fit for purpose in the face of 21st-century complexity.

Why Global Futures? Why Now?

The world is facing interlocking, deeply systemic crises—from climate change and geopolitical instability to inequality, forced displacement, and rapid technological disruption. Tackling these challenges demands new tools, new thinking, and new coalitions.

Geneva is uniquely positioned to lead this shift.

Through the Global Futures – Geneva Perspectives series, Incitāre International convenes local and international actors, governmental, intergovernmental, private, academic, and civil society, to:

  • Anticipate and understand global mega-trends
  • Introduce and democratise futures thinking tools
  • Stimulate meaningful dialogue across sectors
  • Prototype transformative approaches to shared global challenges

These events go beyond discussion. They create safe, strategic spaces for innovation, where leaders from diverse backgrounds can experiment with game-changing methodologies and explore alternative futures grounded in justice, sustainability, and inter-generational equity.

Our Approach

Each event is designed to foster practical learning and systems-level insight. Core activities include:

  • Futures Roundtables that encourage honest, cross-sector dialogue
  • Scenarios and backcasting sessions to explore and plan for plausible futures
  • Workshops on trend analysis, horizon scanning, and resilience strategy
  • Prototyping labs focused on applying foresight to sector-specific challenges

We prioritise action-oriented engagement, ensuring that participants leave not just with ideas, but with tools, insights, and partnerships that can drive real change in their organisations and communities.

By democratising futures thinking and applying it to real-world dilemmas, we hope to catalyse a quantum shift in how global challenges are understood, and solved.
