Sri Lanka faces a defining challenge.
As climate shocks intensify, fossil fuel markets become increasingly volatile, and global supply chains grow more fragile, countries must urgently rethink how energy, food systems, livelihoods, and enterprise development are connected.
The launch of South Asia’s first solar bakery oven represents far more than a technology demonstration.
It is a practical example of systems transformation in action.

Convened by Incitare Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Global Rethinking Finance Collaborative and Germantec Kilinochchi, this high-level event will showcase a locally designed and manufactured solar bakery oven developed as part of a broader strategy to strengthen climate resilience, reduce energy vulnerability, create livelihoods, and support sustainable economic recovery.
The initiative has attracted strong interest from government institutions, vocational training centres, development partners, and sustainability leaders.
The programme integrates solar energy, biogas technologies, pollinator protection, sustainable livelihoods, enterprise development, conservation, and community resilience into one practical demonstration platform.
At a time when Sri Lanka and many countries across the Global South face increasing pressure from climate disruption, fuel insecurity, and economic instability, productive renewable energy systems are becoming essential.
This initiative demonstrates how low-cost, locally adaptable technologies can support bakeries, institutions, eco-tourism enterprises, vocational training centres, and community-based enterprises while reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels.
The business model envisages local manufacture and regional export potential to neighbouring countries.
Distinguished guests include representatives from diplomatic missions, government institutions, development agencies, investors, sustainability leaders, and the private sector.
The launch reflects Incitare Sri Lanka’s broader commitment to building scalable and investable climate-resilient enterprise models capable of strengthening adaptive capacity and supporting long-term economic transformation.
